Winter road trips are a fun thing to do in Ontario. Perhaps you have noticed Christmas music everywhere in malls. That’s what it means. Today, retail stores celebrate Christmas far too early. It is true. However, holidays are rapidly approaching.
You may be able to take some vacation time if you’re lucky. You may be able to get a day off if you’re fortunate. Taking the day off will allow you to spend your holiday relaxing and not trying to visit everyone you know. That’s what it means. December is a fantastic opportunity to take a winter road trip in Ontario, Canada. I love road trips, especially day trips. It is a beautiful province that offers so many possibilities.
Here are my top five Ontario road trips for five days.
Collingwood:
For those who love to ski/snowboard, this is an obvious choice. Blue Mountain has enough. Although I’m not one of them, I love Collingwood. Blue Mountain Village and downtown Collingwood are full of unique shops and great restaurants. You can also check out the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster at Blue Mountain if you’re going on a weekend trip. I have never done it, but it’s on my bucket list. Plunge is an indoor water park that families can use on road trips. Are you looking for a romantic or more relaxing getaway? The Scandinave Spa is a great place to relax before the holiday stress storm hits.
Port Perry
Port Perry is well-known as a tourist destination due to its Victorian-era downtown. There are many restaurants, cafes, and bookstores in the area. Port Perry’s Lake Scugog is a popular spot for snowmobiling and ice fishing.
Elora
Elora is proclaimed to be Ontario’s most beautiful village. I get it. Downtown is the Tooth of Time waterfall and Old Mill. The Elora Mill was once powered by the waterfall and is Ontario’s last remaining five-story mill. It has been transformed into a lovely Inn and restaurant. Elora is known for its spectacular gorge. Many people enjoy a thrilling ride in an inner tube down the canyon in summer. If you don’t mind hypothermia, I doubt that you would want to go in the water in December. Instead, check out the many boutique shops and galleries. The Gorge Cinema is Canada’s oldest continually running theater of independent cinema.
Niagara-on-the Lake:
You will find many specialty shops and shops in Niagara-on-the-lake. A romantic carriage and horse ride is possible. The best thing to do is to visit an Ontario Winery for some wine tasting. You can find many fun winter wine events in Niagara, such as the Stocking Days of Christmas. If you are planning on buying wine, make sure to arrange a sober driver to take you home.
Haliburton Highlands:
Dog sledding is another item on my bucket list. I love dogs and sleds. I think it would be a great activity to do. Winterdance, an Ontario dog sledding company located in the Haliburton Highlands, is called Winterdance. Winterdance teaches you how to drive a dog team. You can choose from 2-hour, 1/2-day, full-day, Moonlite, or multi-day dog sledding tours. Sir Sam’s ski & bike, also located in Haliburton Highlands, offers lots of winter activities such as snowboarding/skiing & sledding.
