Light painting is an extremely enjoyable procedure in which photographers make use of spotlights, flashlights, and camera flashes to actually click pictures by dispersing light into the scene. This is one of the most amazing types of photography done in night. It is tried by many photographers but only a few of them are able to perfect it.Therefore, let’s take a look at the tips to improve your light painting photography. Nearly anything can be used as a tool for light painting photography, e.g. you can use fireworks, digital light wand, flashlights, torches, el wire, lasers, gels, glow sticks, light markers, sabers and swords, lenses, poi balls etc.
10 Tips for beautiful light paint photography:
1. The main point of light painting is to get multicolored light to create unique patterns on the portrait. Therefore, do not use the same light to paint everything as this would make the picture look flat and odd.
2. Select a ray of light with an adjustable brightness option i.e. it can be dimmed, brightened etc. Good flashlights like Mag-lights have modifiable beams, but few flashlights can be dimmed so as to allow you to select the right amount of light for your photo.
3.Make sure to reduce noise. It is beautiful to take pictures with lights but over exposure can lead to more noise.
4.Take as many pictures as you can, each photo will have something different to offer and then you can pick out the best one.
5.Get hold of a flashlight that does not have a hot spot. It would not matter much if you move the hot spot flashlight in concentric circles, but if you want to get finer details in your photograph, you would have to find flashlight without a hot spot. A quick and easy way to remove the hot spot is to use DIY option which is done by taping tissue or wax paper over the flashlight lens.
6.You can create your own dimmable light out of a cornflakes box. It is quite useful and works well as a source of dimmable light.
7.Light photography just like night photography, requires carefully used techniques. You need to have a cable release, long exposure along with noise reduction and mirror lockup etc.
8.Put in a lot of light and add natural objects to make the picture look more realistic. E.g. include the street lights, moon etc. This adds life to the picture.
9.As long as you are wearing dark clothes and the light does not fall on you, its fine for you to walk in the scene, adjust things; paint a few other things to make your picture look realistic. Just don’t let any kind of light fall on you.
10.Focusing on different areas in each picture is a good thing as this would improve the sharpness of the complete shot but also make sure to get at least one wide-angle picture so that you can put all the pieces together, once you are through with it.
